Koko & Kanzi

Koko likes to play with dolls
and she likes to eat candy.
Koko loves cats
and she wants to have a baby.
She‘s a polite gorilla
that communicates through sign language,
and she understands about 2.000 words
of spoken English.
She makes up new words when she doesn‘t have a sign for something,
like ‘finger-bracelet’
which she signed for ‘ring’.
Koko likes to be chased
and she likes to be tickled.
Koko asks all people
to show her their nipples.
Koko where do gorillas go when they die?
She said “Comfortable hole, bye.”
When she heard that All Ball, her kitty, had died,
she said “Bad, sad, bad, frown, cry.”
Kanzi likes to light a fire
and roast marshmallows,
and he knows how to make flake knives from stones.
Kanzi can cook an omelette in a pan,
and he gets past the first round
when he plays pac-man.
Kanzi can communicate through a board with hundreds of lexigrams,
and he learned it at first
just by watching his step-mum.
He tries to help out his mates
that speak only Bonobo,
and he picked up some sign language
from watching videos of Koko.
Koko wants to have a baby
and she chose Ndume
as her mating partner,
but they‘re not allowed in one room.
Koko takes dozens of pills
on a daily basis,
prescribed to her over the phone
by a psychic.
Koko & Kanzi have been parts
of experiments that went on far too long,
and they live in cages and buildings
far away from their homes.
But they need to make the headlines, show that progress is done,
’cause they are caught in the very
human trouble of raising funds.
They’re raising funds.
